Every day for the next 5 days (starting Tuesday 23 March 2010 until Saturday 27 March 2010) I will Blog the good, the bad and the ugly of the 5 main UK Political Parties, in alphabetical order (and all in my opinion).
Tuesday: The Conservative Party
Wednesday: The Green Party
Wednesday: The Green Party
Thursday: The Labour Party
I believe you must never stop questioning your own beliefs, and must allways keep an eye on what your "competition" is doing right and wrong.
The Green Party
The Good:
- The Green Party understands the importance of decriminalising cannabis, and even has a policy on decriminalising the possession of small ammounts of other currently controlled substances. They would also commision a full review into all drug laws in the UK. This approach to controlled substances, I believe, is a very sensible one and shows intelligence and common sense rather than non-sensual, misconceptional dribble.
- One thing I have allways liked about The Green Party is the way they do not bow down to big businesses or corporations. I think it is refreshing to see a political party in the 21st Century which doesn't take large donations from either Unions or huge corporations. By The Green Party relying on private individual donations, they must take into consideration the views and opinions of their members and supporters far more than any other Political Party. This can only be a good thing.
- The Green Party's policy on our Armed Forces and Defence is fundamentally non-interventionalist. They believe the UK should never be aggressive in it's actions, only defensive, and that the budget for our remaining defence forces should be slashed. It all sounds just perfect to me.
The Bad:
- The Green Party still has an appaling image for being a socks and sandles party. In their campaign for The European Parliament Elections 2009, they did put alot of effort into squashing this accusation which proves they see it as a serious problem for their party.
The Ugly:
- Tax. Public Spending. Oh dear God. This is The Green Party's biggest downfall in my opinion. Their answer to everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is to either tax it out of existence, or subsidize it uncontrollably. Some of their most damaging policies are: Regulate the Banking Industry even more, Monopolise the Rail Network under Government control, Continued and increased tax on alcohol and tobacco and finally colossal "eco-taxes" to force people to live the way the Green Government wants them to live. Disgusting.
