On my long and trecherous surf through the World Wide Web, I found myself upon The Labour Party Website this morning. Nothing too out of the ordinary, I quite often visit Political Party Websites of all colours and creeds on my daily surf. However something struck me while on The Labour Party's Website. 3 out of 6 (50%) of their "News" Articles, were merely a bash at The Conservative Party.
This got me curious... So I quickly headed over to The Conservative Party Website. Exactly the same thing. 3 out of 3 (100%) of their "News" Articles were merely a bash at The Labour Party. Not only that, but on their homepage they also had another 2 mentions of "how awful" The Labour Party is and has been.
I have nothing against criticising Political Oponents. That is the wonderful thing about Democracy and Debate. However, surely it is way over the top when your Political Oponents dominate your Website and arguments. Do Labour and Conservative not have anything else to offer other than pure hate for each other?
Why can't Political Parties fight elections on their own merits?
They're too scared to do anything else, because in a two party system any policy either party comes up with will annoy about half of their own supporters.
ReplyDeleteThis is why we need a reformed voting system, so that many parties are a part of the process which means that the parties that do exist will tend to actually stand up for something, rather than relying on hatred for the only alternative. They wont be afraid to only stand up for their own ideology rather than trying to win every single persons vote.
Plus in this rush to the middle ground to hoover up everyones votes, lib/con/lab have forgotten what it is they really stand for anymore; they don't know exactly what their merits of their parties even are.
